VoIP with Linksys/Sipura SPA3000 on iiNet
January 6, 2007
Well I just jumped on the VoIP bandwagon and after some teething and configuration issues, I think I have a stable setup. Some of you will be aware of the echo issues with the SPA3000 on incoming PSTN calls; following various bits of advice from the Whirlpool VoIP forums it looks like the echo has been eliminated whilst still maintaining call quality on both VoIP/PSTN incoming and outgoing calls. I’ll try to list what I did:
- Plugged in the device without PSTN cable, dialed ***** to get to the voice menu and noted my IP address.
- Downloaded the latest firmware (I am using the 3.1.10(GWd) firmware downloaded from this page). Installed on the SPA.
- Reset to factory defaults by dialing ***** then 73738#. Now connected up the PSTN.
- Downloaded the iiNet NewSipuraUtil config file from Whirlpool Wiki. Uploaded to SPA using this configuration tool
- Obviously changed my username and password to what iiNet had provided me. Removed Gateways 2 and 3 as I will not use them.
- In the web admin, changed the following settings:
PSTN Line > International Control
- FXO Port Impedance: 275+780||115nF
- SPA to PSTN Gain: 3
- PSTN to SPA Gain: 3
Regional > Miscellaneous
- FXS Port Input Gain: -3
- FXS Port Output Gain: -3
- Tested calls in all 4 directions and types, seems to work well.
I saved my config to a similar NewSipuraUtil file so please download my custom configuration file and let me know if it works for you. The default IP will be 192.168.1.3 on a 192.168.1.1 gateway so you may need to change that, and I blotted out my username/password.
